Defeated Creek - Carthage, Tennessee

This is my very first attempt after reading Brian's book. Painting is of a place here in Tennessee where I spent my summers with my grandparents. I have a long way to go with values, and with learning to see shapes and colors, instead of "names", but I did want to share this and say thank you, Brian. This painting may not look the best, but for the first time I was really able to put my emotion for a subject into a painting. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated.

This is a 24x24" acrylic/canvas. I've been getting ready for that show Brian, so I've barely been able to paint. This is similar to one I did at the workshop but this one didn't turn out as good. The composition here doesn't seem strong, and I don't know what else. Seems a little dull.

A couple paintings I finished last week for the Harmony Arts Festival. Smugglers Cove is in oil 24x36, the Tulips are in acrylic, 24x24. I had a great time this past weekend as I participated in the studio tour for the festival. Many people came by my studio and we had great discussions about art and painting. A real learning experience. Sharka
