Well I finished Cherry Suite thought I would post to show the final version. Added some more sunlight to the trees and bushes and a few other details. I still think there are some things to do but as Brian says "never finish a painting completely"... Happy Easter! Sharka
a lovely and lyrical painting, well done
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job here Sharka, boy , you drawing skills are great and I love the whimsical movement in this. Brian
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you have done but I like it better like this. better shadows and lights. My eyes feel crossed! haha!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Dave, Brian & Christiane, I did exactly what you commented on with deeper, more shadows and lightened some of the lights and then the varnishing really made it pop out. Varnishing is a smelly process with oil, even after hours bringing it back in the house I had to keep the back door open for awhile....
ReplyDeleteHi Ralph, Right now it's only varnished with Retouch Varnish, a thin coating varnish that adds protection but allows the oil paint to dry through over the next few months without crackling. Retouch can also be painted over if one decides the painting's not finished yet. So yes you're right the final varnish can't go on for a few months but Retouch will provide protection while it's drying. I learned this from another oil painter I know. Sharka
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharka! Retouch varnish didn't come to mind. Thank you for clearing this up for me. Happy painting!
