Please don't take this the wrong way, but in your first step of the painting I really like the movement and energy of the brushstokes and the sharp contrasts of light and dark and I think once the colour came into play in your final piece, to me, that energy and contrast is more subdued or missing. But then again my painting style has always been more flamboyant than most, so take my critique with a grain of salt!!!

  2. Hi Audrey, Alison may have a point there, there is a bit less drama in the color image, however, the color is beautiful. I like the slope of the hill and the intense colors. Brian

  3. Hi Alison and Brian, thanks for your note. I, too, liked the monochrome version. I fall in love with colour but just cannot get the relative values right. Some of the energetic brush strokes in the monochrome version are actually the wiping away marks. Maybe I should wipe away the colour paint, too? Now there's a thought.

  4. OK! we have the same painting here, before and after the color. I like both BUT I LOVE THE FIRST ONE !!! I would let it like this for my part.BEAUTIFUL!
