Going With The Flow

24x30" Acrylic on canvas.

Painting with the brush or knife is the question for me now. With the brush the painting flows and are finished in a short time. With the knife it's always a struggle and takes a lot longer to finish. I know with the knife I will eventually paint really beautiful paintings. Ditto with the brush. It's like walking on a fence. Not always easy making decisions. I think I will go with my feelings and go with the brush for now.

  1. I like the color and energy of the bottom two-thirds a lot--warm, rich, exciting. The tree line feels a bit dark and heavy to me.

  2. Wild color and thick paint! I'm in agreement with Elliot, the top treeline, seems a bit dead. I might introduce a bit of the dark blue purple up there to create some excitement. The lower portion is working well for me.

  3. Thank you Elliot and Brian!

I agree with both of you. It's coming close to be shipped to the local garbage dump, free of charge.

On second thought I will try to restore it back to the way it was, before I decided to wing it and crash dive.

I just painted another on the wing in under a hour. Now it will take me 2 days to repair it.

I think I will go back to the Seven Step method just to maintain my sanity.

    Happy painting to all!

  4. Hey Ralph, I congratulate you for your courage and willingness to experiment and try new things. With my experiments , the success rate is pretty low but when one works , it really works. The 7-step method is tried and true for sure, but I hope you'll continue to experiment. You've produced some very exciting pieces in the last while. Brian

  5. Thanks Brian, Dave!
Yea I guess your right Brian. I'm a little depressed. My wife doesn't want to buy any more of my paintings.
