The Hitchiker
Hello Gang, long time. I did this one today, my first portrait. I think I need a touch of lighter value on the right eye. I've been busy with others, but haven't posted. Look forward to writing some comment below. Julie
Hi Julie, I love the warm/cool rich colors in this one, I think your right, the right eye may need a highlight. I like how the image seems so much larger than the format too. The fact that the right eye is dead center seems to somehow anchor the image and arrest movement. Great job on the mouth and eyes and glasses...what a fun piece! Oh, also nice to see some of the background color in the eye socket...good to see you back. Brian
welcome back Julie, and great to see that you have come up with another new fresh painting. Classic and so you here. Tones are very nicely put down specially the right side of the face.
Hey Julie, great to see you posting again. Kudos for trying a portrait. I'm not crazy about this one. It seems a bit flat to me. The mouth also looks strange to me... maybe too small or lips too thin. I know you appreciate the honest reaction, so there ya have it.
Thanks All, Yes Elliot I love your frankness, and I never take it to heart. I'm not all over it. I like the comp, it's the colour. Once I attend a work shop from Dave (despite studying his work) I hope to acheive a softer feel. I may try it again.
