Wouldn't mind seeing some softer edges on the silouetes especially on the house and chimney in a couple of spots, but other than that, I love the drama and color in this....the treetops look more like the shape of fire than trees, but changing them might quiet the whole thing down. Very exciting piece here and the canvas shape works well with the image...love the clouds and light!.Brian
There is no size but looks like a biggie. Lot of drama here.
The problem is the shapes and contrast between the dark bottom and clouds. With the shape of the trees you have, the clouds seem to be pouring down off the canvas. It's creating an optical illusion.
Thank you Brian and Ralph. I see exactly what both of you are saying. Brian I hadn't noticed the things you point out, but will address them. Ralph I agree with what you are saying. It was an area that I had a bit of trouble with the value. I will see what I can do. If I have time i will make some changes, and then ideally I will figure out the formatting technique so the post is not so distracting to the viewer. I also I wanted to mention that I had this picture (which is a view from my living room)in my files, but it was seeing Dave's sky that inspired me to finally paint it. Thanks Dave!! Julie
The sky totally works for me. I've wanted to do something like this for a while but haven't had the guts. I don't like the skyline silhouette though. It doesn't seem connected to the sky part really. Like brian, i think lost loose edges would help.
There is a free program to download called Picasa. It is an excellent program for storing, cropping and making colour corrections on images of your work. Its a good. Very dramatic painting Julie.
