Through Your Eyes

OK I shot this picture today, which is always fun, to paint a fresh image. I thought I would try oil, as I really wanted to take my time with the value study. With acrylics I often feel rushed and stressed. So my guess is now I will have to wait for a week or so, before I go back in....if I go back in. I think I will. My guess is the paint will lift if I go in too soon, is this right?? Anyone?? I also enjoyed the variety in the edges I could get with little effort, and I find there is much more subtlety, which I am afraid I will loose when I go back in. So I am really trying Brian methods with oils and alot of time inbetween. 24X30

  2. Hi Julie, lookin good although seems a bit chalky in the top right corner, but nice study here. If this is oil, you can go back in right away but the colors you add will blend a bit with whats on there already, which is OK. But if you want to introduce new fresh colors, you may wish to wait until the study is mostly dry to the touch. Not sure what colors your adding, but hope you'll post when done. Brian

  3. Julie, I agree, I thought it was done. Looks wonderful. If you put your value study on with paint thinned with OMS, it should dry very soon within an hour.

Yes, really want to see the finished one. Love it.

  4. Hey Caroline,

What is OMS? And how do you use it? Would sure love to know more. I used Liqin, and will go back to the studion today to see if it is dry.

  5. OMS is odorless mineral spirits. I don't know what Liqin is.?? The OMS to buy is made by Gamsol because it so refined that it isn't has harmful as some. I only use it to put value study on and maybe to clean my brushes. Otherwise I use baby oil to remove the paint in the brushes then wash the brushes with Dawn soap. Works great.

  6. Julie, to answer the question of how to use OMS. You just thin your paint by using a small amount on your brush first. Use more to thin more. OMS causes the thin paint to dry very fast.

  7. Thanks Carolyn,

Liquin is put out by Winsor Newton (I think) Brian I think told me about it, it speeds up the drying time.
