First post in a while
Hi Brian, this is the painting I was working on when Elliot was painting me. I'm not quite finished but since you were patiently waiting to see something from me I thought I'd post it now and get some advice before I finish up. I'm not crazy about my bushes in the front, the top deck on the left doesn't read so well and the window frames look a little un-painterly. If you or anyone else have any suggestions they would be more than welcome!

Joanna, nice to see you posting again. I like this one quite a bit, I think the bushes and deck are just fine. You sure captured the late afternoon sun in this (if I'm not mistaken) and I'm glad to see the burnt sienna poking through here and there.. I would let the painting be painting, you don't get points here for being accurate. Brian
ReplyDeleteI agree with Brian. I have also noticed how it grows on me each time I come to the sight, which is cool, kind of like a good song!

A lot of soul, a lot of memories in that painting - you have discovered what magic there is in
ReplyDeleteachieving results - a good beginning is a thing well done...Van
Thanks everyone. That's really encouraging. Julie, it has kind of grown on me too, I did not like it at all when first painting it (the critic was out in full force!) but now I kind of do! Brian thanks for the reminder re accuracy!
ReplyDeleteI love this Jo. I really captures the scene. I think it makes a difference that you painted it from life.
ReplyDeleteYou might like the upper deck rail better if you try breaking it up a bit referencing the lattice that it ised to bit. You can always paint ocer it if you don't like it.
I really want to see this in person.

Thanks Page. I'll definitely let you look at it and give me some direction in person.
