24 x 30 acrylic. This is from Edmisten Rd near my house... you did a painting from Edmisten Rd, remember that Brian? Anyway, I haven't really done a landscape like this before, so it was a good exercise to stretch a little. C&C welcome.
Hey Joanna! What a surprise! Welcome back!!!! THIS IS GORGEOUS!!! WOW, you must be thrilled? Hope you stuck this in a nice frame or had Elliot make you one! The colors are really strong, war/cool, complimentary and the brown in the upper right adds a nice neutral to the bold colors. This one has the "presence" of the place which is a wonderful surprise when it happens...a feeling of 'being there'.
I might just darken the blue a tad in the reflection, usually reflected trees, sky etc are darker in reflections (not always), but the brighter blue keeps pulling my eye down there. A small issue and maybe not necessary. I am so impressed!!!! Brian PS, can't quite remember the place myself or the painting I did but this painting of yours could be anywhere! Brian
Oops... Elliot here. The painting is mine, not Joanna's. We use the same computer at home, and I didn't realize she was signed it. Thanks for comments though Brian. I'll definitely try darkening that blue.
Sorry for the disappointment Brian--I know you'd love to see Joanna post. She wanted me to tell you that she was flattered that you thought it was hers.
Hey Elliot tooo bad, thought Joanna was back at it! Anyways, this has to be one of your best Elliot, so clear, confident, fun and alive. This would be a good one to hang on to for a bit and just study it to see what makes it work so well! Brian
Hi Elliot, I like the mood here. Really liked the way you handeled the reflection, as this is something I have been looking at recently on my river. I agree with Brian on the blue, caught my eye too. I also like the composition with the shadows in the forground. Nice work. Out of curiosity how long do you spend on a piece?
Thanks Julie. I would guess I spend 2-3 hours on a smaller piece and 3-4 hours on a bigger piece... if things are going ok. With my schedule, I usually have to break it up over a several days.

ReplyDeleteI know what makes this one work so well--The 7 Steps! I'm grateful for you every day my friend.
Elliot sharp colors and lots of observation.the reds, yellows needed the darks to tone them down. I'm glad you saw to that. lovely
ReplyDeleteGreat painting Elliot. You really have a way with colors. great job!
