Hi there, I have recently done Brian's workshop. This is one of the images I was working with during the workshop. I am experimenting with color with this version, it is small, 10x14. I did this one to see what happens with colors and how to get specific colors before I get to the big one ( which is still in its value stage). I did not do much with the faces or the hands, other than remove some of the paint to give the impression of the shapes and features.
I would appreciate any comments anyone may have.
I have enjoyed seeing what people are doing and posting to the blog. - Joy

  1. WOW! Beautiful , rich colors here Joy, this is gorgeous. I love the lack of detail in the faces. This is a little gem.
Thanks for joining the blog Joy , you'll find us a friendly bunch here. Hope you'll post the big one when completed! Please feel free to post whatever you like here or comment on whatever you wish to., Boy, I love your little painting, those dark browns , turquoise blue, reds and green just 'sing'. Also like how the distant mountains are softened and sit way back. Oh, the little lick of light around the figures is great! Brian

  2. Wow! I am very impressed with this study Joy!

You didn't choose an easy painting to do.

The composition and perspective looks great.

It's acrylics so you can go over it as many times as you want till you are satisfied. You will be experimenting the rest of your life no matter how advanced you become anyway.

I have painted over 7 or 8 times until I came up with something I liked.

Take your time and have fun.

    Everyone finds their way.

  5. Thank you all for your comments and encouragement. I am thoroughly enjoying exploring the world of painting. I thought that there was more to do on this painting but after putting it online and looking at it from there, I could see that it was done, its moment for me is over, except for the viewing. :) On to the next ...
I am also enjoying looking at the other painting on the blog, there is such beauty here.
